1. Objectives

The game’s objective is two-fold:

  • I
    You can play for fun with other users and make new friends;
  • II
You can join a League and play for a period of time in competition mode.

In the first case (Play for Fun), your goal is to practice the game and earn XP points, move up to higher levels and show your value.

In the second case (Play for Rewards), your goal is to play seriously, reach the top of the leaderboard and qualify to win a reward.

2. Play for Fun

In this mode, games can be played against any of your friends from your contact list, or against random opponents.

  • I
Before starting a duel, you should select the game from a list. Currently, you can select Trivia, Memory, Mahjong, 9-Game, Birdies and Maze-Miner.
  • II
All the games are time-bounded; they should be played in less than 1 minute.
  • III
Once you finish your game, the other player has 12 hours to respond.
  • IV
In the case of Trivia, the winner of each game is the one who answered the most questions correctly. In case of a draw, the user who answered the questions in the shortest time will win.
  • V
In the Memory Game, the winner is the player who has unlock more pairs in the shortest period of time. In case both players hit a bomb, the one who had more points by the time the bomb was hit wins. In case of a draw, the player who took less time to achieve those points wins.
  • VI
In the other 4 games, the winner of each game is the one who reached more points, within the objective. In case of a draw, the user who reached those points in the shortest amount of time will win.
  • VII
The player who wins the game will get 5 XP points; the other player will get 0 XP points.
  • VIII
In unlikely scenarios, if there is a draw in a game (same points, same time) both players will get 0 XP points.
  • IX
If the other player does not reply to the game request, none of the two players will win or lose points.
  • X
The more XP you win, the higher the level your will reach in the App.

3. Play for Rewards

There are League competitions that may last between 1 and 4 weeks.

  • I
There could be one or more League competitions at the same time, and you may play in all of them, if you want.
  • II
In the League mode, you will not compete for XP points, but rather for League points.
  • III
You must apply to join a League.
  • IV
Acceptance is not automatic; you may have to wait for multiples of 4 players to join.
  • V
Every day, you will be required to play 3 games (your daily games) against other random players in the League.
  • VI
Each opponent of a daily game will play exactly the same game with the same objectives as you do. Conditions are equal for both.
  • VII
The daily games will be selected randomly from the existing list of games (Trivia, Memory, Mahjong, 9-Game, Birdies and Maze-Miner).
  • VIII
The daily games have a duration of 24 hours; you have until the end of the deadline to play, otherwise you lose those games.
  • IX
In the case of Trivia, the winner of each game is the one who answered the most questions correctly. In case of a draw, the user who answered the questions in the shortest time will win.
  • X
In the Memory Game, the winner is the player who has unlock more pairs in the shortest period of time. In case both players hit a bomb, the one who had more points by the time the bomb was hit wins. In case of a draw, the player who took less time to achieve those points wins.
  • XI
In the other 4 games, the winner of each game is the one who reached more points, within the objective. In case of a draw, the user who reached those points in the shortest amount of time will win.
  • XII
The player who wins will get 10 League points; the player who loses the game will get 0 League Points.
  • XIII
A player that did not play a daily game by the end of the day will receive 0 League Points. If the other player did play, he will receive 10 League points.
  • XIV
In unlikely scenarios, if there is a draw in a game (same points, same time) both players will get 5 XP points.
  • XV
If you win a daily game, you will also win XP.
  • XVI
At the end of the League, the players at the top of the leaderboard will win rewards.
  • XVII
Players who do not reach the leaderboard are also qualified to receive ad-hoc rewards. This is why you should keep engaged and involved in the League competition until the very end.
  • XVIII
Players are allowed to play in group strategies. Birdy Bytes is a social game, so we welcome the best use of social mechanisms. This means you can engage in some team or clan and play in a collaborative way, provided all the players play in mutual respect and follow our policies to avoid misbehaviour (see section 6 below).

See the League Rules for more information about joining and playing in the League competitions.

4. Special Cards and
Mess-Up Cards

Special and Mess-Up Cards can be used in both Play for Fun and Play for Rewards. Special Cards can be of two types: attack and defense. They can be used to steal points directly from other players. Mess-up Cards can be used to obstruct your opponent’s game.

Attack Cards

  • I
Attack Cards can be sent to any player you choose in order to steal League Points (if you use them in Play for Rewards), or XP points (if used in Play for Fun).
  • II
Every Attack Card has a different value, from 1 point to 100 points and above. Each Attack Card can be used only once.
  • III
An attack will take 5 hours to be effective.
  • IV
In Play for Rewards a player can attack only their closed neighbours in the league leaderboard. Currently, the player can only attack the other players that are in the range of 10 positions above and 10 positions below his/her score in the leaderboard.
  • V
If the other player does not react to your attack, you will steal the number of the points indicated in the card, from the other player.
  • VI
If the other player defends the attack with a Card of the same value or above, you will not steal any points.
  • VII
If the other player defends an attack with a Card of smaller value, you will steal the difference in points.
  • VIII
When a player loses points in some attack that player can attack back the other player at any time even if the player is not within the close range in the leaderboard. There is a REVENGE button to do this.
  • IX
Attack Cards can be used inside a League from the first day of competition, until the last 5 hours of the deadline. This means you should not send an Attack Card in the final 5 hours of the League, since attacks take 5 hours to be effective.
  • X
Each player can only receive a maximum of 15 attacks per day. When this number is reached the other players will be notified of that.
  • XI
There are some other special cards for attacking:
    • Power Attack Cards: These cards to attack faster than the 5 hours or can attack other players in the ranking with an extended range.
    • Poison Attack Cards: These cards can steal one point per hour during a period of 24 or 48 hours.

Defense Cards

  • I
Defense Cards can only be used when you receive an incoming attack.
  • II
You have 5 hours to defend an incoming attack.
  • III
Defense Cards can be used only once.
  • IV
If you do not react you will lose to the other player the number of points that are indicated in the Attack Card.
  • V
If you react you should use a Defense Card with the same value as the Attack Card. If you use a Defense Cards with a lower value, you will lose the difference in points.
  • VI
If, for some reason, you use a Defense Card with a higher value than the attack card, you will not lose any points, but you will not gain any extra points either.
  • VII
Defense Cards can be used at any time in the Play for Fun mode, and at any time during the time-period of a League: from the first day until the final minute of the League.
  • VIII
If a player ran out of Defense Cards, there is still a mechanism to somehow protect this player: each player can receive a maximum of 15 attacks per day.
  • IX
There are some other special defense cards:
    • Antidote Defense Cards: These cards can be used to defend from Poison Attack Cards.
    • Immunity Defense Cards: These cards are able to defend any attack during the period of time (typically 24 or 48 hours).

Mess-Up Cards

  • I
Mess-Up Cards can be used to obstruct your opponent’s game.
  • II
They can be used in Play for Fun or Play for Rewards.
  • III
Mess-Up Cards will not directly steal any points from any other player; they are just a way of bringing fun and entertainment to the game.
  • IV
There are different types of Mess-Up Cards available. The first 10 in the list are only applicable in the Trivia Game; the last one in the list is applicable in any game.
    • Fire Mess-Up: This mess-up will cover your opponent’s screen with virtual flames. It can be stopped by blowing into the device’s microphone.
    • Ice Mess-Up: This mess-up will cover your opponent’s screen in ice. It can be stopped by blowing into the device’s screen.
    • Mirror Mess-Up: This mess-up will invert your opponent’s screen and there is no way to stop it.
    • Spot Light Mess-Up: This mess-up will cover your opponent’s screen in darkness, with only a passing spotlight to help them read the question and there is no way to stop it.
    • Blurry Vision Mess-Up: This mess-up will cover your opponent’s screen with a blurry fog. This mess-up can be stopped by shaking the mobile phone.
    • Broken Glass Mess-Up: This mess-up will virtually crack your opponent’s screen if he fails the question. There is no way to stop it.
    • Scratch Card Mess-Up: This mess-up will cover your opponent’s screen, which must be scratched away in order to read the question.
    • Polyglot Mess-Up: This mess-up will translate your opponent’s questions into another language during 4 seconds. You can shake your device to stop it.
    • Cockroaches Mess-Up: This mess-up will cover your opponent’s screen in virtual cockroaches and there is no way to stop it.
    • Upside Down Mess-Up: This mess-up will flip your opponent’s screen upside down and there is no way to stop it.
    • Magic Emoji Mess-Up: This mess-up will cover your opponent’s screen with a set of irritating emojis. You need to click the emojis to make them disappear.
  • V
Mess-Up Cards must be sent before a game begins.
  • VI
In Play for Fun, you can send a Mess-Up Card to your opponent by clicking the "NEW GAME" then clicking "MESS-UP" button before pressing "PLAY NOW".
  • VII
In Play for Rewards, you may only send a Mess-Up Card to your opponent if you are the first one, between you and the other player, to play the Daily Game. This must be sent before clicking the play button on your daily game, which will be shown to you in the League.
